FAQ
Frequently asked questions about the vehicle exchange
Which vehicles can I list?
Cars, trucks and commercial vehicles, motorcycles, motorhomes and trailers — especially with accident, hail, fire or engine damage, as well as economic total losses. Roadworthy used vehicles for salvage-value determination are welcome too.
How binding are the bids?
Every bid is binding for 4 weeks (28 calendar days) from the deadline. The award obliges the bidder to collect and pay at the bid price — bidders who fail to do so are suspended.
Who can see my vehicle and the bids?
Only registered, manually verified commercial participants can see the objects. Bids are sealed: no bidder sees the bids of others — the highest bid is only revealed after the deadline.
Is the certificate suitable for my appraisal?
Yes. The PDF salvage-value certificate documents all bids with timestamps and bidder data and is designed as evidence for insurers and courts.
What does the salvage-value determination cost?
For listers, the salvage-value determination costs €15 net per object; registration is free. No fees are charged during the current pilot phase.
How long does a vehicle have to stay listed in the exchange?
Practice and case law consider 24 hours sufficient, as most bids arrive quickly. At Restbid you set the deadline freely — 3 to 7 days are common to reach the full bidder network.
Does the injured party have to accept the highest bid?
No. Under German case law the injured party may generally rely on the regional salvage value determined by an independent assessor. The highest bid binds the bidder — not the vehicle owner.
How quickly do the first bids come in?
Approved bidders are notified by email the moment a new object goes live — first bids typically arrive within hours. The highest bid is fixed when the deadline expires.
